9th December – EDL Protests, Climate Summit, and Class War

9th December 2009

This week the panel will be discussing:

EDL Protests

On Saturday the English Defence League held demonstrations in Nottingham, prompting counter-protests from Unite Against Facism. The cost of controlling the protests may pass £1 million according to the police. Should these protests be allowed, even at this cost?

Climate Change Summit

The UN climate summit in Copenhagen has begun in an effort to unite world leaders in their efforts to prevent climate change. Draft agreements are already being leaked, with some being acccused of giving a disadvantage to poorer nations. Can the summit be effective, and at what price?

Class War at the Election

David Cameron has responded to Labour raising issues about his Eton education, suggesting that Gordon Brown and Peter Mandelson want a “class war”. Can these tactics ever be effective?
