Just our Random Fling!

14th December 2009

Random Fling (Nottingham University Ultimate Frisbee club) have had a great season so far with both Women’s and Open teams excelling at nationals. The women finished 17th and the open team came 4th in Div.2 Nationals, meaning both teams are in the top 20 in the UK. So before the Christmas break URN took the chance to catch up with them and discuss the ins & outs of Ultimate Frisbee at Nottingham University!

The Season so Far!

The open team have been to 4 tournaments, where they’ve finished 2nd twice, 4th and 5th. Only ever having lost by 1 point, and with a goal difference of +75, this season is looking to be a great success. The Women’s team only lost 2 games at Nationals, and managed to win the Plate at regionals.

The club has hosted 2 tournaments, the Nottingham break-in, a one day invite-only tournament and University Open Indoor Regionals, where 24 teams battled it out over 2 days for 6 spots at BUCS Nationals.

All of this success wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work from everyone involved in the club and the large intake of fresher’s, many who had never played before starting Uni. The club are now preparing for the outdoor season at the start of next term, and mixed where they finished 3rd in the country last year.

On top of this we still have the alumni game, the varsity game, international tournaments and the big end of year beginners tournament, which we are hoping to make even bigger and better this year. Details to be released in the summer term and we are looking for as many teams as possible made up of housemates, AU clubs and societies.

The Sports Quiz

As all the guests on the URN Sport Show are compelled to do the Quiz, Ultimate were no different. Wih Nottingham University’s AU Officer Alexandria Hingley still topping the table with an astonishing 28 points that was the obvious target:

In the chaotic two-minutes Ultimate Frisbee were able to score a grand total of….28!!!! Tied with Alex at the top now with Netball sitting comfortably in 2nd place with a 25…
