American Football Varsity Preview

1st February 2011

With the 2011 Nottingham Varsity Series opening with American Football on Sunday, URN Sport caught up with some of the Nottingham University representative side. Known as the ‘Outlaws’, Uni’s team will be looking to avenge their 14-6 defeat at the hands of Trent last year.

Captains Chris Freeman and Jacob Vincent gave us an insight into their match preparations, the season thus far and also took on the URN Sports Quiz, with impressive results.

The season so far…

The season started with great expectations for the Outlaws who were pushing for a play-off appearance. A good start, with wins away at both Lincoln (25-7) and Staffordshire (14-0), had seen both offence and defence exhibiting the skills needed to do well. A home match to Derby proved to be a tougher test, however, (11-7). With the weather causing havoce, the Outlaws remaining two games were cancelled and re-scheduled for the new year. The mood in the Uni camp, though, still remains positive. With all players confident that they can achieve the goals they outlined at the start of the season and push to reach the play offs.
