Men’s Varsity Hockey: Match Preview

16th March 2011

With the Varsity Series now delicately poised at 4-3 to Trent, Friday March 18th will be a big day, with both the Men’s and Women’s Uni Hockey teams having the opportunity to snatch points from Trent. Should both do so, the score would swing 5-4 in Uni’s favour with just 3 sports left to play. URN Sport reports on the Men’s side in the run up to their match.

In a season overshadowed by the perils of player turnover, which saw the Men’s squad forced to rebuild a team that had just been promoted to the BUCS Premier League. Despite having to replace twelve players, the team have acquitted themselves well, retaining their place in the top tier of University Hockey and beating Trent twice in the process.
Uni will, however, have to be on their guard and put in a performance, with previous Varsity occasions having shown that the form book can be ripped up for big games like these. A young squad, many will have to take in the Varsity experience for the first time. History though, will be on their side, as Uni haven’t lost the fixture for two years.

With all still to play for URN Sport will be reporting on the match at Beeston via our text updates. Click on for those and the rest of our Varsity coverage.
