Thursday Sport Show 18-10-11

18th October 2012

In this edition of the Thursday Sport Show, Gaffers, Dave, Simona, Justin, Rob and James were joined by Flo & Pimms from Nottingham University Women’s Football Team. They gave us the lowdown on how their season has begun, and also explained how anyone interested in joining the club can get involved. As well as that, they had to face off against Rob in the Sport Show’s notorious quiz to find out if they really know their sport!

Next, the show took a more sombre tone as we discussed the awful scenes of racism and violence on and off the pitch at the England U21s World Cup qualifier against Serbia. We also discussed Notts County’s disappointing 1-4 defeat in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy to Sheffield United, and tried to get to the bottom of why the Magpies keep crumbling against tougher opposition.

The Sport Show has its fair share of mavericks, so we’re pretty well qualified to discuss two mavericks of current sport: namely Kevin Pietersen and Tyson Fury. We debated what the consequences would be of KP’s return to the England cricket squad, and as for Tyson Fury… we’ll let you make your own mind up!

In the final section we asked what went wrong in England’s lacklustre display against Poland in Warsaw, which ended a 1-1 draw. We then speculated as to which players could drive England forward to better results in coming games – whether Gerrard can adapt to a deep-lying role, and if Wilshere can return to his former glories after injury.

Thanks again to Flo and Pimms from NUWFC for taking part in the show, as well as to everyone who texted in and listened.
