What’s New? – We’re back!
19th January 2013
WE ARE BACK! Along with a new year, comes brand-spanking-new music (and a few exams, sadly). Our whole playlist has been revamped, ready to help you procrastinate, keep you entertained as well as up to date with the most recent tracks. The Sound of 2013 has already given us an insight to what we can expect in the music world this year, with Haim as the winners! (For those who read our previous blog, you’re allowed to join in with our smug “I told you so”). Unfortunately, we can’t give you guys an update of EVERYTHING that’s new to playlist – which is a hell of a lot. BUT, we can share with you the tracks we are loving at the moment and the artists we can’t wait to see in 2013.
Frightened Rabbit – The Woodpile
Move over Biffy Clyro, there’s a new Scottish band in town. This quintet formed in 2003 with Scott Hutchison on lead vocals & rhythm guitar, Billy Kennedy, bass, Andy Monaghan, guitar & keys, Grant Hutchison, drums and Gordon Skene, guitar & keys. The Woodpile will be released Jan 28th preceding the release of the band’s fourth album “Pedestrian Verse” in early Feb. No wonder this track was labelled “Zane Lowe’s Single of the Week”, you’ll be singing/head-banging/air guitar-ing along in no time. If you love this track and band as much as we do, here at URN, Frightened Rabbit will be playing at Rescue Rooms 21st Feb. Can’t make it? Don’t fret – URN has it covered. We’ll be reviewing the gig and interviewing the band – everyone wins!
Pond – Moth Wings
Oh, so you like psychedelic rock? (Yes that’s a thing!) Lucky for you, Pond have it down to a T. Their band members come and go, that’s how it’s supposed to be. The idea of Pond was to get anyone they wanted to play whatever they wanted. You’d think that would end in some mish-mash of music, but it’s really not the case. After hearing this track, you can totally understand why NME named them “The Hottest New Band In The World” in May 2012. Put your headphones on and turn up the volume.
Bastille – Pompeii
In the past year, Bastille’s popularity has skyrocketed and we’re certainly not complaining. Pompeii is one of the tracks from their soon-to-be-released album, Bad Blood. Bastille have a completely original sound and their music is so accessible, they’ve created two mixtapes combining various tracks that couldn’t be any different! Check out www.otherpeoplesheartache.com for a FREE download (love a good bargain!). These guys are seriously talented and have already supported Emeli Sande and Two Door Cinema Club – 2013 will have a lot in store for them. URN has massive love for them and we hope you do to. They’ll be playing at Rock City March 21st – Tickets are selling out. This is one gig you won’t want to miss.
