Varsity 2013: Rugby League Pre-match Report
13th February 2013
This Friday will see one of the most tightly contested fixtures on the Varsity calendar, Rugby League, played out at Harvey Hadden Sports Centre. Last year saw Uni claim a narrow 22-18 victory, but this time round things will not be so easy, with the momentum all on Trent’s side. Both teams have competed in the same BUCS division this year, the Midlands National, and with the regular season all played out Trent have been crowned division champions, winning 6 out of their 10 games, including both their home and away fixtures against Uni. The UoN boys meanwhile have slogged through a much more disappointing season, winning only 4 games and registering a disappointing -40 goal difference.
When it comes down to it on Friday night Trent will come full of confidence, having beaten Uni twice in the league already. For the Uni boys, the challenge is considerable, and they have a real point to prove if they can get the win. They will be hoping to exorcise the demons of a disappointing run in the league this season with a win in their final showcase fixture of the year, and you can help them by getting down to Harvey Hadden and showing your support! Free buses will be running from campus and Lenton down to the stadium, so there’s no excuse not to get down to the game this Friday night and take in one of the most aggressive and fast-paced sports contested in the entire Varsity Series. But if you can’t make it to the game, URN will be running live text updates throughout the match.
