URN’s Sound of Nottingham (10th March)

9th March 2014

Every week, the team from URN After Dark select two tracks for our lovely colleagues to play on their Daytime shows. This year, we have put a specific emphasis on promoting local talent from Nottingham across all genres, that we at URN are keen to support as much as possible through featuring them on our Sound of Nottingham. Our revamped Track of the Week is a song recently released which is yet to hit the mainstream playlists on National Radio and one that we believe is destined for big things. Consider this our way of helping you discover the very best in new music spanning all genres, be it from Nottingham or nationwide!

Sound of Nottingham
This week, we turn to an organic electronic producer duo One Bit, made up of Joe Murphy and Jonty Howard. The first release from One Bit titled ‘Cold’ received its first play on BBC Introducing via Dean Jackson’s show on January 11th 2014 to rave reviews, with Dean going so far as to say “I love it…stunning, I can hear it all over national radio.”

Shortly after the radio debut of ‘Cold’, the track was uploaded onto their Soundcloud profile, and in the first week amassed over 10,000 plays, averaging more than 1 play every minute. Their next and much-anticipated offering, ‘Daydream’ makes our Sound of Nottingham this week and has been played on URN After Dark shows such as Under the Radar(Thursdays 7-9pm) and Dance Delirium(Mondays 7-9pm) who have both shown unequivocal support for the track. Here at URN, we are hoping that their new single gains as much of a following as ‘Cold’ did earlier this year, and we truly believe that One Bit are ones to watch for 2014!

Spark was officially revealed as Amber Run’s new single on Dean Jackson’s BBC Introducing East Midlands show on 8th March 2013 marking the continuation of an ever-growing band destined for big things. All students from the University of Nottingham, the band took a break from their studies this year to pursue careers in music having played the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading and Leeds Festivals in Summer 2013. The lads have just finished recording their debut album with release due at some point later this year, and have already been lined up to feature at some of the Summer’s biggest Festivals nationwide.
