The Miami Music Week Lowdown (Thursday)
27th March 2014
On the eve of Ultra Festival, the greatest concentration of dance music artists and fans anywhere in the world, we take a look at who will be making their debuts at this year’s festival!
Ultra has stepped it up with a bumper line-up for 2014 and by adding phenomenal new stages to Bayford Park, including a live stage. The new live stage features many debutants and offers an eclectic selection of artists ranging from drum and bass kings Chase & Status, to electronic pop Aussies, Empire of the Sun.
French artist Gesaffelstein is headlining the opening night of the live stage and will be bringing his hard hitting techno beats to the ears of the Ultra crowd for the first time. However, the must see act of the first night has to be Basement Jaxx, who are also taking their carnival-like live show to the festival for the first time. Basement Jaxx are a British dance institution and with a back catalogue jam packed with hits such as Where’s Your Head At?, Good Luck and Bingo Bango, expect this debut to be one of the liveliest sets of the weekend.
There are plenty more exciting debuts beyond the live stage, with Gaia being one of them. Armin Van Burren’s alter-ego is bringing his selection of classic trance anthems to Ultra for the first time and is warming up for headliner Paul Van Dyk on the A State of Trance Stage on Sunday night.
The Underground Story stage brings the best deep house producers from across the world to Miami for Friday and Saturday night. Simultaneously making his debut and closing the stage will cap off an incredible two years for, Solomun. His label, Dynamic, has been defining the genre for the several years now and this headline slot above other legends in the game, Justin Martin and Claude VonStroke, is testament to that success.
The main stage sees a slightly more predictable, but nonetheless, equally as exciting debut from the young EDM hotshot Martin Garrix. The Animals producer has seen an unprecedented rise to fame over the last 12 months, one that has rightly seen him bag a slot alongside other chart smashers, Avicii, Alesso and Armin Van Burren.
But perhaps the name on the line-up that caused the most buzz is Jack U. Who or what is Jack U I hear you begging to know! Put simple, it is Diplo and Skrillex.
Is this the Swedish House Mafia style supergroup for bass? Let’s hope so, they have been in the studio together and have 6 original tracks to premiere in their Sunday night main stage performance. Arguably Jack U represents the most anticipated debut of the festival and those dance music fans will be clambering over each other to get as close to these two industry moguls debut festival performance together.
Let the madness begin…
