Miami Music Week is taking its toll as 3 DJs end up in hospital

We promised to bring you the latest developments and gossip from Miami Music Week; well here are some juicy bits straight out of the Sunshine State!

Twitter erupted night last in the wee hours as party-goers at the SLS Hotel in Miami were told that Avicii would not be performing his scheduled headline set because he had been taken to hospital with a mysterious illness. The Hotel had pulled out all the stops for the massive pool party, even replacing their usual logo on the side of the building with ‘AVICII’ – awkward!

Very few details have emerged as to why he was rushed to hospital and many are speculating on Twitter as to what is wrong with Ultra’s Saturday night headliner. We hope the Swedish superstar DJ recovers in time to wow the crowd on Saturday night but unbelievable, Avicii wasn’t the only DJ visiting A&E yesterday.

Dutch producer Afrojack also ended up in hospital too, with an official diagnosis of dehydration. However, Twitter’s diagnosis suggests a combination of the heat, alcohol and playing several massive shows already this week led to Afrojack feeling under the weather. Stephen, one half of Dada Life was also hospitalised yesterday and has reportedly undergone urgent surgery to stop the condition worsening in the future, again details are hazy. Afrojack will still be fulfilling all his scheduled appearances this week, whilst the other half of Dada Life, Olle will be playing their shows.

This rush in the hospitalisation of DJs comes just days after Tiesto was also taken to A&E with severe concussion as a result of banging his head on a TV screen on the way to the stage at a show in San Diego last Friday night.

It has also emerged on Twitter that Laidback Luke, who was due to play the main stage at Ultra tonight, has had to return home and will miss his show because his wife Gina is expecting their child imminently.

So much drama already this week in Miami and Ultra hasn’t even begun yet! We want to send our best wishes to the ill DJs and to the rest of Miami, look after yourselves this weekend! The Miami Music Week Lowdown will return for the last edition next week to round up everything that happens at Ultra Festival and most importantly bring you all the new music that is premiered there.
