Table tennis pre-game interview:

The margins are small between Nottingham’s two universities at table tennis.

In BUCS, the two teams are major rivals and in a league of their own (metaphorically). In both the men’s and women’s leagues, the University of Nottingham finished 2nd and Nottingham Trent finished 1st.

The University of Nottingham will be desperate for revenge. As well as being pipped to two titles by Trent this season, they lost the inaugural Varsity table tennis 3-2 last year.

Nottingham Trent also have disappointments to avenge though. While in the league both the men’s and women’s teams won one game each against each other, the cup finals took place recently. They were both between UoN and NTU, and Uni’s men won 9-5 while the women won 3-0.

For UoN, watch out for the men’s number one seed Paul McCreery. He competed in the Commonwealth Games and this year won the National Irish Championships for the third time in a row.

The nature of the game means that, as per last year, it could go down to the wire. The University of Nottingham will be hoping that a big home crowd can give them the edge. Women’s captain Yolanda King says it will be helpful, after the sport took place on Trent’s Clifton Campus last year.
