Hangovers Match Report: The Big Lewandowski game

9th March 2017

URN Hangovers FC 3-1 The Big Lewandowski

Three sensational goals and a solid defensive performance saw the URN Hangovers record their much anticipated win of 2017 yesterday afternoon. In a late kick-off (adjusted for television coverage), The Ministers dominated the game in front of a bolstered double-figures crowd, to soar up the table into 3rd.

The URN Ultras in full force

The Hangovers took the lead early on courtesy of a mazy solo-effort from Captain Perkins, who nutmegged one player before dancing past two more and firing in between the goalkeepers legs. URNFC succumbed to complacency soon after however, and conceded via a deflection. Keene came to the rescue on the stroke of half-time though, belting in a left-footed drive from around 20 yards out.

Captain Perkins is interviewed post-game by Amar Mehta, who was unceremoniously dropped from the squad following his calamitous own-goal last week

The Hangovers had plenty of opportunity to extend their lead, with a stone-wall penalty turned down because it’s only IMS and doesn’t really matter. Meanwhile, Knight continued to prove himself capable of missing even the simplest of chances, as he hit both posts with a shot from around an inch away from the goal. Jubilation greeted the Hangovers’ third of the day as Clay played a delightful through ball over the Lewandowski defence to Knight, who converted his 10th chance of the game. Nolan was thrown on up top immediately after but to no joy as the full-time whistle blew.

Reece celebrates a hard day of contributing very little

The victory saw URN move off the bottom of the table and into third on the final game of the season. The team await the draw for the Tri-Campus One-Day Tournament with interest.
