The 50 BEST Nostalgic Songs in the World EVER!

posted 20.05.12 at 11:44am

So, I've been a member of URN for approximately 5-6 years now. (No, I'm not failing at university, I'm doing a PhD...) and I have 5 shows left. Including today's.

So, in order to go out with a BANG, and keeping in line with the usual songs I play, I thought I would do a countdown to the the BEST nostalgic song OF ALL TIME!

I want you to help me come up with the top 50 songs, as I thought it would be a bit selfish to make it myself. Therefore, if you follow the link below and choose your favourite songs, that would be AMAZING.

From Backstreet Boys to System of a Down, Razorlight to Supergrass, Pendulum to Rick Astley, you can choose.

It's all in the name of all that is good (and occassionally cheesy!) in music...

Trashy Magazine Titles

posted 04.12.11 at 12:50pm 160 comments

We've all seen those trashy magazines sitting on the shop rail. You look at them and you think - 'Really?'; 'No way!'; 'She put the what in the where now?'

But how easy would it be to identify the story if some of the headline were blanked out? And that's what today's show (12-2pm) is about. Below, you will see a collection of trashy magazine titles, and throughout the show, I want you to guess the missing word.

I will be revealing the answers throughout the show, so stay tuned...

Good luck!

URN Goes Global!

posted 20.11.11 at 2:24pm 68 comments

URN clearly already has over a gazillion listeners, but we aimed to take it global! To do this we sent three Travel Bugs to travel all over the world.

We put the travel bugs in the Geocache closest to the University, which happens to be on the Campus! We headed over there and placed three Travel Bugs in the cache where they could be picked up by the next cacher to visit.

Stu went to school with the lovely Cat Deeley and he has this to say:

"The Deputy Head still receives her calendar from her every year and displays it in her office!"

Alex went to school with Matt Horne off of Gavin and Stacey:

Matt Horne

Giles' mum went to school with Rowan Atkinson and his uncle went to school with Jeremy Clarkson. Amazing!

URN does Bohemian Rhapsody

posted 25.01.11 at 11:49am 120 comments

It was a dark, cold and windy Friday night. In Tilt in Nottingham, four students known only as Bradders, Alex (mark I and mark II) and Jimbob (real name open to suggestion) decided to cheer up the whole student population with a tune of gigantic, huge and amazing proportions.

Bohemian Rhapsody.

URN style.

On Saturday with the technical genius of Stuart and Martin, and the added extra beautiful singing voice of Scott, a two hour challenge to rewrite the whole song began. To the theme of Jeremy Kyle.

Finally, at 16:00 on Saturday 22nd January, 6 of us crowded into the studio to hear the rewrite. Some say that upon hearing the rewrite, Brian May himself mourned for what could have been for the original. Some say that upon hearing our version, Roger Taylor danced naked around a forest by twilight to the tune of the rewrite. Some say that people mostly just switched off URN for 6 minutes whilst we wailed down the microphones. All I know is, to hear the final result, click on the link.

It is actually beautiful. Enjoy.

And on an unrelated note, if you want to hear this week's blooper, this week generously donated by the one and only Scott, please listen below...
