The Elections Show - Meet the Sports Candidates

They wouldn't be smiling if they knew we'd make them look like absolute fools! They wouldn't be smiling if they knew we'd make them look like absolute fools!

Once again, it was time for The Elections Show to REALLY put some candidates through their paces. Today was the turn of the SPORTS CandidatesKiri Madhani, Frazer Bowen, Jon Spinks, Adam Turner, Jack Mousley and Chloe Scott-Mearns were in for a treat.

Before anything kicked off (geddit?!... Yeah, sports!), it was time for Will Jowett to find out the point in all of these campaign videos.

Once that was out of the way, we had a cheeky stalk of the candidates’ twitter accounts for today’s biggest twit.

Tune in tomorrow when the Education candidates are put to the test. (#puntastic)

URN's Sound of Nottingham (10th March)

posted 10.03.14 at 2:06am

Every week, the team from URN After Dark select two tracks for our lovely colleagues to play on their Daytime shows. This year, we have put a specific emphasis on promoting local talent from Nottingham across all genres, that we at URN are keen to support as much as possible through featuring them on our Sound of Nottingham. Our revamped Track of the Week is a song recently released which is yet to hit the mainstream playlists on National Radio and one that we believe is destined for big things. Consider this our way of helping you discover the very best in new music spanning all genres, be it from Nottingham or nationwide!

Sound of Nottingham
This week, we turn to an organic electronic producer duo One Bit, made up of Joe Murphy and Jonty Howard. The first release from One Bit titled ‘Cold’ received its first play on BBC Introducing via Dean Jackson’s show on January 11th 2014 to rave reviews, with Dean going so far as to say “I love it…stunning, I can hear it all over national radio.”

This week, we've turned to a 22 year-old producer from Nottingham called Farrow. He has gained support from BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, BBC Introducing, Hannah Wants and B.Traits. Our Sound of Nottingham, Weak has just been featured on Eton Messy and is available to download for free from his Soundcloud. The track features vocal samples from The Isley Brothers which enlighten the record and fit perfectly with its deep, yet relaxing bassline. It has been described by RaveFaced as a "great way to start your morning." We couldn't agree more!

URN After Dark's 12 Genres of Christmas

Let it Snow, Do they know it's Christmas, Fairytale of New York. What sort of Christmas would it be without such Classics gracing our ears and fueling our excitement for the festive period?

Many would be forgiven into thinking that those on After Dark hide away from the festive cheer of Christmas; choosing instead to seek comfort in a gut-wrenching guitar solo or a bone-shattering bassline.

Well, you couldn't be more wrong...

Below is what happened when the After Dark team were set the task of finding Christmas songs from their respective genres. The result? The discovery that behind the Classics lurk festive tunes that represent the musical world in it's entirety, whether they be remixes, covers or collaborations.

So treat this as a gift from us to you - a song for every day of Christmas and a chance to hear our take on the Classics! What better way to get into the festive cheer than hearing Christmas songs from all across the musical spectrum - so for those of you looking for something slightly different, look no further!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all on the After Dark team. We'll see you for more of the very best in Specialist Music in 2014!

The Final Mo-down (Part 1)

30 days. A handful of URN presenters. Blood, sweat and tears. The odd worry that puberty hasn't hit yet. More tears.

It's the 1st of December which means Movember is over, and we can finally see the results of our mo-growers. Some of our contestants haven't sent us their final mo-ses yet - we can only assume this is because they can't stand up to get to their computer due to the sheer weight of their upper lip. Here are the Mo-ers who have sent us their efforts so far:

It's not QUITE the jockey-mustachioed dream, but here are Jack and Matt's admirable definitely-no-Photoshop-involved efforts:

Here's Izzie who looks ready to be crowned Mo champion:

The only photo we've had so far of Joseph and Wojciech - this is just something they managed to knock up 20 minutes before the deadline:

Hogan (AKA Ben Read) stuck around to show us how it's done:
