The Big Picture: Private Schools, Immigration, Young MPs - Wednesday 3rd December 2014
8 January 2015 - 2:34am — The Big PictureOur penultimate show of first term became one of our most lively yet with the all-too-familiar clash of our panellists, both regular and new, on schools, immigration and the age of Members of Parliament.
First up, we discussed controversial proposals from the opposition to remove the charitable status of private schools unless they do more to help the state education system.
After a short break our panellists exchanged some heated rhetoric on immigration, in particular on the news that the current Government did not meet the targets they originally set themselves.
The show finished with a discussion on the age of MPs following research that shows some of the youngest candidates for the 2015 General Election are just 18 years old.
Don't forget to join us on Wednesdays from 6pm for discussion of student issues, current affairs and all things politics!
The Big Picture: Ferguson, BandAid, UKIP - Wednesday 26th November 2014
2 December 2014 - 1:55pm — The Big PictureThe last show of November saw our student panellists discuss the riots in Ferguson, USA (with a special from a UoN alumni in the States!) as well as debate on the use of Band Aid to raise money. Perhaps the most heated of all was our discussion surrounding UKIP's victory in Rochester and Strood, in which there was strong disagreement (to put it lightly) over Emily Thornberry MP's #Rochester tweet.
Sound like your cup of tea? Have a listen!
The Big Picture - Wednesday 19th November
23 November 2014 - 2:34pm — The Big PictureQuick overview of the best of this week show
Firstly, our panel discussed whether the Green Party should be included in party leaders' TV debates in the run up to the General Election.
Secondly, following a debate organise by Voice Your Rights Projects, we discussed secularism. President of Agnostic, Secularist and Humanist society came along as a guest speaker.
Lastly, after some reports suggested that a current tuition fees system is unsustainable and tuition fees should be lowered we evaluated the current and discussed possible changes to the system.
