Manifesto

As your education officer I will fight for:

1. Quicker marking of coursework.

(Increased pressure on academic staff to provide detailed feedback within the 21 day timescale. After all, you don’t gain 5% for every extra day that you’re waiting for your results).

2. 100% of lectures recorded and available online.

(No excuses, no option for lecturers to opt-out).

3. Cheaper printing for students.

(Increased credits – students should not have to pay to print out their work or key resources).

4. Personalised online timetables.

(Easy to view timetables for every student showing all their lectures, seminars and assessments, available online and on mobile app).

5. Additional funding for students completing compulsory field trips and placements.

(No student, regardless of their financial situation should be obliged to pay hidden course fees).

6. Improved library stock.

(The university libraries must provide all students with the opportunity to access essential textbooks in either paper or digital format).

7. Standardised hand-in procedure.

(Introduce a university wide system for handing in work to avoid confusion regarding hand-in time and expectations, especially for students completing assessments from multiple schools. I also believe we could alleviate the unnecessary stress caused by midday deadlines and give students until 5pm to submit work).

8. Academic dispensation for AU members.

(I will work with the Sport Officer to ensure that students receive adequate academic support and understanding, especially when traveling to away matches).

A bit about me:

- As a course education rep I successfully rallied to get all lectures moved from 9am to 10am starts.

- I have experience of making big changes in the university and in 2013 helped Karnival to eliminate a debt of £30,000 in my role as treasurer.

- Despite having a brilliant time at university, I have been disappointed with elements of my course and this motivates me to improve the academic experience for students at our university.

- I want to see Nottingham modernise and become a 21st century university, increasing student satisfaction and reclaiming its status as one of the UK’s top 10 universities.
