Manifesto
BEING WHERE YOU ARE
• With so many students living off campus, Union Services must extend beyond University Park to residential areas, Sutton Bonington, Derby, Jubilee and all off campus halls.
• I will endeavour to provide a Students’ Union Hub in Lenton – functional for what students need – printing, workspace, student services and socialising. Meeting with the University to discuss locations will make this possible.
EDUCATION
• Get the degree you’re paying for: Updating Moodle needs to be compulsory, with more information and recorded lectures to enhance exam revision, and account for lectures missed through extra-curricular activities and lecturer strikes.
TANGIBLE CHANGE
• I want to make your student card a student ‘Oyster’ card – top up your card with money for use on campus.
• Bus routes need to be improved, ensuring all students have access to their education and extra-curricular commitments. I will lobby for all routes to have double-deckers at peak times, and the Derby hopper to run later.
CHANGE TO COME FROM THE BOTTOM, NOT THE TOP
• Union policy affects students, so lets have more student consultation on policies, spending and improving both education and student experience.
• A JCR exec committee to support first year representatives and to facilitate improving the halls experience
EXTRA-CURRICULAR PROVISION
• Extra-curricular activities are essential to employability: The Union must make sure sports and societies have the space and support they need to provide their services; by meeting societies to gauge their specific needs and relaying information to the Vice-Chancellor this can be achieved.
As well as my policies I will ensure the SU fulfils it’s obligation to: facilitate change more readily for student representatives, work closely with all campuses (including the SB Guild and UNAD), promote equality in both representation and participation and to ensure the changes made are personal, relevant and desirable to the students of Nottingham.
