Manifesto

Improved Lecture Recordings
We all miss lectures, which is why I will aim to change the perception of lecturers with regards to the use of audio and/or video capture in taught sessions. Most teaching rooms have the capability to record lectures but this is rarely used due to the common misconception that it results in a sharp reduction in attendance. The aim is to turn this readily available technology into an additional educational support that will aid revision and learning and will aim to improve the grades of students.

New SU space in Lenton
I will look into purchasing a university-acquired space to serve as a “mini-Portland” for the benefit of students in Lenton. The proposed space could incorporate a university internet Wi-Fi café with UoN printing capabilities and possibly a branch of Mooch. So if your internet goes down or your printer breaks you can still crack on with your work. It can serve as a meeting point and social space and aim to improve links with the local community.

Building Maps
Picture the scene. First, you can’t find the building you’re meant to be in. Then, when you arrive late the internal maze takes several minutes to negotiate. A number of buildings on campus are notorious for this such as LASS, Coates and Trent. Is a single A4 map of the whole of a campus really sufficient? With today’s technology you should be able to navigate your way around campus using an interactive platform similar to Google Street View. Also I will provide clear maps of the floor plans to each building at every entrance.

Personal Activity Calendar
I want to develop an online, interactive calendar which automatically loads your timetabled lectures, seminars, tutorials and labs. It would be incorporated into Moodle. You can then add or delete events such as sports or society activities. As an added bonus your exam timetable appears without any effort from yourself! You can do as much or as little with it as you like, after all it is designed to be a personal calendar!

Weekly Rollover for Hall Meal Cards
One of the key issues with Catered Halls at present is that if you don’t spend your daily allowance of £5.10 on food, it gets wiped. I am calling for the ability so the money can rollover for the rest of that week. This would give students the freedom to spend their money as they want, so if you go out for a meal or grab a takeaway you have money to spend for the remainder of the week.
