Joe Sheedy #BreakTheSilence - “Helping You Find Your Voice Again"
Experience
I have been a student at Nottingham for four years now and, like many of you, haven't found it easy. Suffering from depression has been hard but it's made me stronger. I understand how important the welfare of each and every student is personally and I've built strong relationships with our health advisers and support staff.
With everything I've experienced not much can phase me. I want you to have a voice who's been there and felt that loneliness and isolation. I will never stop working and caring for anyone who wants nothing more than to belong and feel valued.
Change
- I vow not to pursue division, instead working to improve support for all students, regardless of affiliation. I will put care before controversy and provision before politics.
- I will work tirelessly to promote the #BreakTheSilence campaign to raise awareness of students who have suffered sexual abuse as children.
- I will aim to integrate minority associations and officers so people can feel part of one University community rather than many battling factions.
- I will oppose introducing Gender Neutral Toilets due to to the anxiety this could provoke, particularly amongst abuse survivors, through the diluting of privacy.
