Manifesto

I have watched with apathy as the separation between the lofty heights of the SU Executives and the student body has grown further and further. Dominated by notions of popularity and Machiavellian politics, the SU has been impotent for too long. I will connect the president to the person once again by making one promise:

By the end of my year as president you will know who I am and what I have done for you.

This will be achieved by:
• Publishing on a regular basis both the SU’s successes and failures via media outlets. I consider both vital.
• Clinics held within the student community so that individuals may meet me in person, and speak of the issues that matter the most to them. Time will always be available in my diary for the smallest problem in any person’s life.
• Minutes will be published in their entirety, efficiently and in an accessible form.
• The SU will become as transparent as possible; honest, open and intrinsic to the day-to-day life of every student.
• Publically speaking on contentious issues that arise during the course of my term. Students must know the SU’s stance and the reasons for it.

The SU is a powerful institution with huge potential to achieve great things. Its purpose and ability has been lost in favour of furthering the careers of the ambitious. It is a tool for empowering and inspiring the voiceless, and should be used as such. I will hand the SU back to the student.
I am not a product of the SU system, nor am I BNOC. I am a product of the student body; I am yours.
