Noorulann Shahid

Manifesto

Introduction

Hi, my name’s Noorulann Shahid and I’m currently studying towards a master’s degree in Behavioural Economics. I’m running for the role of Postgrad Officer because I’m passionate about higher & further education and I’m committed to making positive change for future postgraduates.
Pledges
- Continue with the campaign for better funding options for all postgraduate students, particularly for Home students to ensure postgraduate study is more accessible

- Campaign for taught postgraduates to be given a reading week so that they can keep up with their course reading and assessments

- Liaise with the international officer and support the NUS’ current campaign to fix international fees

- Work on the flexibility of postgraduate taught courses

- Provide those who are considering postgraduate study an opportunity to consult with current postgrads in the subject areas that interest them

- Ensure each school is adhering to the guidelines with regards to postgraduates who teach and demonstrate

- Work closely with the officer for education, the education network and postgraduate course reps

Experience

- Current Student Ambassador for the University of Nottingham, which involves welcoming visitors to the university and representing the university in a positive light

- Course rep for the Economics Master’s course- I attend learning community forums with the course directors and represent my colleagues to ensure their concerns are heard and addressed

- Treasurer and social media rep for the Accounting, Finance and Economics Society (AFE soc) at MMU (2011-13). I help to set up the AFE Soc which fast became the largest society at MMU and has recently won an award by PQ Magazine for best society in the country

- I worked in my previous university’s student’s union for two years as a customer service assistant so I have a good understanding of how Student’s Unions function and run as well as the roles of the officers
