Manifesto
Hi everyone,
I have been considering running for the position of Education Officer for some time now, as it feels like a logical progression from the roles of Course Rep, which I held last year, and School Rep which I am currently holding. Both of these roles have made me realise that there are some changes which I would like to make happen across the University if elected.
I believe I have already brought some beneficial changes into the Department of Archaeology, such as introducing “ask an MA student” drop in sessions and conducting a successful survey on coursework feedback, which will be discussed and evaluated at the next LCF meeting, hopefully bringing about the changes wished for by Archaeology students. I would like to expand upon this and make changes like this happen for the whole student body of the University of Nottingham. I am not afraid to be blunt when I need to be and I am not one for being idle in my responsibilities, these are characteristics which I believe would aid me well in the position of Education Officer.
I may be pink and fluffy, but I am a serious candidate with serious ideas in mind, which could affect not just our continuing students, but also students who are about to graduate.
My policies:
- To create undergraduate-run research groups to publish and celebrate novel ideas of students.
- To ensure that the libraries reflect the needs of all students when it comes to written and on line resources, as well as ensuring the buildings themselves meet student’s expectations.
- To standardise the short loan time to up to 12 hours and improve the ease of access to longer loaning times for students with Learning Difficulties.
- To prioritise and develop academic peer-to-peer mentoring and integrate this into the curriculum.
- To continue the current efforts of the SU to reduce costs to students such as hidden course costs and printing.
- To continue the improvement of moodle as an academic resource.
Thank you for your time.
