Manifesto Points

- Ensure that tackling the issues with Postgraduate funding remains a priority campaign for the Union

• Lobby the University to increase availability of bursaries for postgrads and extend the 10% alumni fee discount to include home students

- Improve the quality of pre-arrival information available to postgraduates covering housing issues, welfare, involvement with societies etc.

• Ensure that schools are giving out honest and accurate information about which modules will be running the following year

• Make all module handbooks and reading lists from previous years available so that students can make more informed module choices

• Create buddy system between Undergrads/PGT’s/PGR’s thinking of applying for further study so they can discuss potential benefits/pitfalls honestly

- Work with the Careers Service to better tailor careers advice to the needs of postgraduates and help them improve their employability

• Make sure that postgrads who don’t want to pursue a career in academia are supported in how to exploit their postgrad qualifications to gain advantage in the job market

- Push for increased standardisation of course structures across the University

• Lobby for all modules taken as part of a postgraduate qualification to be at postgraduate level to ensure that students are getting both the course they deserve and the course that they’re paying for

- Campaign for the University to set a minimum number of contact hours for postgraduate qualifications to ensure postgraduates receive fair levels of contact time for the fees they pay
