Manifesto
Trained in:
- Suicide awareness
- Listening skills and database management by two helplines
- NUS Liberation Activism
- Teaching listening skills
Positions of Responsibility:
- 13/14 LGBT Welfare Officer at UoN LGBT Network, giving me inter-university links and experience
- Within LGBT I have been working on the nighttime safety campaign
- 13/14 Nightline Tech Officer, awareness of running large organisations and university protocol
- Bar staff at Oceana, city-wide contacts in industry
- Volunteered externally, more city links and understanding of what’s available external to university
From all this I have realistic ideas of the struggles students face, what they need, and the best ways to acheive that.
Policies:
- Capitalize on existing welfare resources by better advertising them & expanding and coherently training welfare networks.
- Tier systems of support aimed at different needs, covering all campuses & students abroad
- Effectively address myths & concerns held about the counselling service through active communication
- Work with societies to ensure that their makeup covers the diversity & access needs of our students.
- Increase the number of sheltered rest stops and dropped curbs on campus, and continue the lighting drive
- Explore needs for and benefits of improvements of welfare during Week One
- Campaign on better nighttime safety in Nottingham, expanding on what networks have already acheived
- Extra health fairs across all campuses for things such as stop smoking, stress busting, exam skills etc.
- Provide equal opportunities and workplace discrimination information about graduate employers.
- Increase levels & visibility of support during assessment periods.
